Tasha Harris is a native of The South Bronx. When she first started playing basketball, it was more by coercion than it was by choice. This was because basketball was the only gateway for her to be able to play outside with her brother. His passion for the game made it so that the only way Harris could play outside with him was if she played basketball. She eventually surrendered to her brother’s terms at the age of six.

“I always wanted to go outside with my brother but he would always play basketball. So he made it so that in order for me to go outside, I had to play basketball. It was from all the playing that I began to love the game.”

It is clear now that Harris’ brother’s passion for the game rubbed off on her. Her same passion for the game drove her to develop into a player that amassed more than 1,000 points during her four years in high school. Tasha attended St. Michael Academy, where the legendary Apache Paschall coached.

Harris also played for Apache's AAU team, Exodus New York City, a program that was considered to have some of the best basketball talent in the nation. She finished her high school career named as a First-Team All-Manhattan and rated as the No. 45 recruit in the country by Blue Star Basketball.

After high school, Tasha attended Syracuse University. Tasha Harris is Syracuse's all-time leader in games played (133) and games started (132). She also ranks in the top 10 on six other career lists, including second in assists with 536. Harris finished her senior year seventh in the BIG EAST in assists and 10th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4). During her career with Syracuse she made four postseason appearances, three in the WNIT and one in the NCAA Tournament, her freshman year. During her freshmen year she was also named to the Big East All-Freshmen team.
